ABOUT
Andrew Harper is a sound designer for musical theatre and opera, having designed many productions with major American opera companies, including Houston Grand Opera (five world premieres), Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, New York City Opera, and Glimmerglass Opera. He also serves as the sound designer for Houston’s Theatre Under the Stars, having designed over fifty musicals with them since 2013. Additionally, Harper’s designs have been heard at venues across the country, including Shakespeare Theatre in DC, Lyric Opera Kansas City, Atlanta Opera, and Houston Ballet, among other companies.

In summer 2021, he designed the outdoor sound system and all six productions for the Glimmerglass “on the Grass” Festival in New York, including The Magic Flute, Songbird, Il Trovatore, and The Passion of Mary Cardwell Dawson. In the 2025-2026 season, Andrew designed 25th...Spelling Bee, White Christmas, Million Dollar Quartet, and Beautiful for Theatre Under the Stars, American Psycho and Hunchback of Notre Dame with Houston Broadway Theatre, Francesca Zambello's production of West Side Story at Los Angeles Opera and Washington National Opera, Zambello’s Porgy and Bess at Houston Grand Opera, Silent Night at Houston Grand Opera, and Zambello’s Guys and Dolls at Shakespeare Theatre in Washington D.C., for which he was nominated for a 2026 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Sound Design.

Some upcoming productions include Madama Butterfly, Mozart's Idomeneo, and the world premiere of O'Keeffe: Kiss the Sky with Washington National Opera, and Showboat with Houston Grand Opera.
